Exhibitions and Events
The spring flowers are starting to bloom and the call of the tui in the trees while they sip the nectar makes me feel hopeful for the new beginnings of Spring just around the corner. On my regular walk up Maungawhau I’ve seen lots of crimson puriri flowers which inspired my drawing for the Winter Members Show at North Art. I recently visited my father on his olive grove in Waipu where he has several very large flowering Puriri trees too.
There’s quite a bit happening around here this July and August so hope you enjoy reading about the events I will be involved in over the next few weeks.

Franklin Arts Festival
I have three pieces going into the Franklin Art Show this weekend. They have lots of charcoal and contrast of mat and shiny areas with mixed media and collage. They also have some still life elements of flowers my mother loved to grow in the garden. I often start with still life and work over the top in layers until; they are buried underneath the layers of paint, collage and drawing. These ones I decided to leave the fragile forms of the flowers exposed and they speak of grief and fragility of life. I’ve framed them in glass and in doing so they capture our reflections so they become reflections of ourselves and our fragility.

Baradene Art Show
The Baradene Art Show Gala Night will be from 6.30 - 9.30pm on Friday the 23rd August and I will have four recent paintings on display in the exhibition too. This is an annual fundraising event, with proceeds contributing to the facilities and learning opportunities for students throughout the school. The Art Show runs through the weekend with free entry on Saturday and Sunday, 24th and 25th August from 10am - 4pm, Baradene School for Girls, Remuera, Auckland.

Meditative Drawing Workshop at Corbans Estate Art Centre
On the 17th August I will be running a Meditative Drawing workshop at Corbans Estate Art Centre all day Saturday from 10am - 4 pm. We will be exploring some meditation and mindfulness techniques and using these to foster creativity and flow using vegetable dyes and other drawing materials on paper. I will make up dyes from beetroot, onions and red cabbage. It’s pretty incredible what kind of colours you can get from vegetables and teas. It will be a relaxed, nourishing and joyful experience, and participants will come away with some new techniques they can use in their own practice. Check out Corbans Estate Art Centre website for more details.
